Speak to our dentist in Central London about Invisalign if you want a straighter smile

Getting a straight smile used to consist of having an unsightly metal appliance attached to the front surfaces of your teeth. At Cannon Street Dental Centre we think that people should be able to straighten their teeth discreetly, which is why we offer Invisalign. Having a crooked smile can lead to insecurities as well as additional dental problems, so it is recommended to seek treatment sooner rather than later. Our dentist in Central London can answer any questions that you have about this treatment at your consultation appointment and will be able to tell you if you are suitable for it. In some cases where misalignment issues are severe this treatment may not be ideal, as it is designed to resolve only minor misalignment issues.

How do the aligners work and what are they made of?

The first thing our dentist in Central London will do when you have made the decision to have Invisalign treatment is take a 3D scan of your mouth. This scan will predict how your teeth will move over time and produce a series of images that show the positions of them as this happens. From these images you will have multiple sets of aligners made, one for every stage of movement. These aligners are made from a thin clear plastic and will fit  comfortably over the tops of your own teeth. They should be comfortable and not impact your ability to speak. Due to their clear nature they are almost invisible, making it incredibly difficult for anyone to spot that you are wearing an appliance. Unlike other traditional straightening treatments these aligners are not fixed to your teeth and are easy to put in and take out. You will be provided with a few sets at time, attending check-ups in between to collect your next sets of aligners and ensure that your treatment is working correctly.

Six month treatment time for simple misalignment issues

Once our dentist in Central London has provided you with your first sets of aligners it is important that you wear them correctly if you wish your treatment to work efficiently. Each set of aligners must be worn for two weeks each. It is important that you do not try to skip a set or speed up the process by shortening the time that you are required to wear them, as this can actually lengthen your treatment and delay results. Whilst your aligners are removable, it is important that you are wearing them for at least twenty-two hours of the day to achieve your desired results. You can take them out to eat food and brush your teeth, but other than this it is recommended that you keep your aligners in. When you take them out to eat it is important to brush your teeth before replacing them, as this will ensure that you avoid a build-up of plaque. For minor misalignment issues you can expect treatment to take around six months, but treatment can sometimes take up to twelve months if the misalignment issues are more complex. Treatment time will always vary depending on your individual circumstances too.
